Forwards

Today I receive a wonder post from my neice Heather. She shared a story about her a resent accomplishment in her life and sent it to everyone. It wasn't anything earth shattering by world standards but one of those little things that just make life a little shinier. I love these kinds of posts!!! In fact every time I get a forward from someone I think "I wish they had sent me a story about their life instead". Even though the "forwards" are sometimes really touching stories I would much rather hear a story about the same friend or loved one. It doesn't have to be anything big... just share a moment of perspective, joy in the small stuff or even a moment of sad realization. I am thinking of putting together a "forward" that asks for just that very thing...

Favorite Blogs for Perspective

Every once in a while I snoop around to see if I can find an interesting blog to hang out at. So far I have only found one that I like to check everyday. He is a young man who was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia when he was in college. He has a wonderful way of sharing his day to day. I guess why I enjoy it is because it helps me keep my life in perspective. Things like the fragileness of life, the reality of the mentally ill and how they are not only real people but quality people, and it makes me grateful or lots of things I take for granted

Anyway I bet you all have "favorites" for different reasons.. Please share them with me and let me know why they are special to you.

Colonoscopies are FUN!

Are any of you approaching 50? I just found out at my last physical that once you turn this age a colonoscopy is recommended every 10 years. Just so you know, when your Dr says this you want to be happy about it. I never knew this and spent all last week practicing in my mind how to be "grace under fire" aka not be a big baby and make a fool of myself. Well, my appointment was yesterday and I am here to tell you that I am looking forward to my next one in 10 years!!! First of all the Fleet Phospho-Soda Ginger Lemon compared to the old caster oil stuff we used to have to take for a "cleaning" was a breeze. Unexpectantly though the procedure was absolutely WONDERFUL. When I woke up from the sedative I felt as if I had just had the best nap of my life. I was able to get dressed right away , walk ( float) right out of there and go out to dinner at Olive Garden. Once home I laid down on the couch and fell to sleep and had the most terrific night of sleep ever. (I am usually a pretty good sleeper.) So when your Dr tells you it's time for the "scope" you what to say YES!!! with gusto because your in for a surprising treat. I just wanted you to know how much fun this procedure is so that you won't waste time sweating the small stuff like I did..

PS I don't have colon cancer either YAHOO!

What's going on in that head of yours?

While working at a conference last week we had quite a bit of down time. Too much time + nothing to do = time for some great sweating of small stuff!! ( Yes, we were selling Math curriculum. ) One of the conversations led to an interesting discovery. Not everyone thinks the way I do . Yes, I know this isn't any surprise. However, I am not talking about it in the usual sense. The conversation was about what is actually going on in a persons mind while listening to someone speak. As I listen there are pictures like a little movie going on in my head just behind my forehead. We delved into this further with some of the people visiting our booth found some see written words instead of pictures and other do not "see" anything. Is this interesting?! Especially in my mind where I am looking at them seeing words running across their forehead like a digital reader board or more interesting the blank mind. So now I am really curious!!! Who sees movies?? Who sees words?? Who sees nothing and what exactly is happening when you see nothing??? Is there anyone who has an even different experience??

Having a brain which processes this way causes me a lot of trouble. Often the "movie" translates the conversation literally. That's probably why I enjoy slang phrases so much. Old stand-bys like " I love it better than a hog loves his waller" is a great one to pop onto my minds movie screen out of the blue. Other times the "movie" runs ahead of the conversation. On occasion the movie gets "stuck" after something really funny happens and I can't stop seeing it or laughing inappropriately. I found a way to help maneuver around this the other day. Kathy was practicing a speech she is delivering in a couple weeks. She had forgotten her glasses so was wearing 2 pairs.. Must have been one for distance and another further down on her nose for close-up. It looked so funny I bursted out laughing. Consequently she removed one of the pairs. However, my mind continued to see the home made bifocals. In an attempt to control my laughter I pictured snakes during her talk. I have no idea what was in her talk but at least I didn't continue to interrupt her with laughter. No one else on the support team seemed to have this "problem" or thought it was all that funny in the first place. The question I have is did the others on the support team not have "movie brains" or did they just have more self control?

I would so love your take on this. Hope you will have time out of your busy day of thinking about things that are really important and post a comment.

Powder, Liquid or Foam

Modern technology in public restrooms seems to be growing at a new pace. The good news is that I am sometimes finding these adventures a great cognitive therapy opportunity. I would really like your input on this so that possibly we can all change with the times
( or be function at best) and grow together to make this place a better world.

My first area of concern is soaps.

I have always enjoyed the distinct texture and scent of "classic" liquid soap in public restrooms. In fact in retrospect I think I actually looked forward to it. When using this soap I knew by the weight that I had soap on my hands without really paying attention. Unfortunately the new watery soaps or foams are so light I have to take a 2nd look to see if I even got anything. In "the old days" the soap scent was specially reserved for public restrooms. Now the soaps being used are the same scent as the ones I use at home. From a aromatic perspective public restroom have lost a piece of that distinct nuance I used to enjoy.

Having broached this topic with another person I am finding that others also have staunch opinions about public restroom soaps. In fact since discussing this with her we can no longer go into a public restroom without her getting on her soap box and making further attempts to convince me to becoming a pubic restroom foam soap lover.....b-r-rother! It is a good thing that I love her for who she is and can see the beauty in her individuality. So far I am standing firm on my convictions. However, I will try to remain open minded to any new insights on this matter. Please take a moment out of your busy day of thinking about things that really do matter and share your opinion. If you have other "public restroom" or other seemingly unimportant issues you would like to forum in a clean manner let me know.

Since I am new to this and also invited others who may be new I just wanted to let you know how to comment. Click on the word "comment" which is located below this post on the right . You do not need to have a blog or sign up for anything. You can type your comment in the box and click anonymous to send it. It will come to me for approval so you may have to wait a while to see it. If the seasoned bloggers know a better way to display this let me know.
